Congressman Trent Franks(Incumbent): He first served in the Arizona House of Representatives in 1984. In 1987, he was appointed by Republican Governor Evan Mecham to head the Arizona Governor's Office for Children. In late 1987, Franks founded the Arizona Family Research Institute, a nonprofit organization affiliated with James Dobson's Focus on the Family.[7] He was the Executive Director of the organization for four and a half years. In 1992, Franks was chairman of Arizonans for Common Sense which tried to get an initiative on the ballot in 92 to ban most abortions in Arizona. He was elected to the United States House of Representatives in the 2002 election, and has served ever since. Jeff Flake (Incumbent): Jeff Flake is a fifth-generation Arizonan, raised on a ranch in Snowflake, Arizona. Jeff's career in public affairs led him to the southern African nation of Namibia, where he served as Executive Director of the Foundation for Democracy, which monitored Namibia's democratic process during a time when the nation had its first elections and wrote its constitution. In 1992, Jeff and his family returned to Arizona where he was named Executive Director of the Goldwater Institute. In this role, Jeff worked to promote a conservative philosophy of less government, more freedom, and individual responsibility. Jeff has represented the Sixth District of Arizona since 2001, serving on the Committees on Oversight and Government Reform, Foreign Affairs, and Natural Resources. Ruth McClung (Challenger): Ruth McClung is a physicist who is currently working as a rocket scientist at a local engineering company. She attended Pima Community College for her first two years of school. She paid for college through a tennis scholarship, a job at Del Taco, and a job as a lab assistant in the Engineering and Physics departments, at Pima. After finishing her first year at Pima she was able to get a job at a local engineering company as an intern. She continued with that job through college and is currently working with the same company. After receiving her credits at Pima College, she transferred to the University of Arizona in August of 2002. In May of 2004, she received her Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Arizona. In June of 2005, she married Michael McClung. In 2007, Ruth and Michael decided that their American Dream included starting a business. Michael went back to the University of Arizona to get his Masters in Business Administration, and Ruth supported him. Ruth and Michael presently work for the same engineering company, while Ruth runs for Congress and Michael continues working on research to start his own company. |

Doug Ducey(Challenger): Doug Ducey was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. When Doug came to Arizona in 1982 to attend college, he didn’t know a single person. That soon changed, and four years later, when he graduated Arizona State University with his Bachelor of Science in Finance, Doug Ducey had begun to develop deep roots in the community. He had grown to love the Western spirit and Arizona. While majoring in Finance at ASU, Doug worked for Hensley & Co., the local Anheuser-Busch distributorship. Upon graduation, he joined Procter & Gamble and began a career in sales and marketing. There he was trained in management, preparing him for the next step in his entrepreneurial journey back to Arizona. When Doug originally saw the first Cold Stone Creamery in Tempe, he was amazed by the emotional connection the customers had to their local ice-cream store. To him, it had the potential to change the entire ice cream category and become the Ultimate Ice Cream Experience. It became Doug's goal as a partner in the business and then as the leader and CEO of Cold Stone to bring that brand to life and share that experience with the world. Gary Pierce(Incumbent): Gary currently sits on the Corporation Commission. He was elected to the seat in 2006. Prior to serving on the commission Gary was an Elementary School Teacher for Mesa’s Taft. After his teaching experience, he got into the automobile industry. He moved to Yuma and managed Honda and Nissan dealerships. While in Yuma, Gary served twice on the Yuma County Board of Supervisors. In 1998, him and his family moved back to Mesa. He served in the Arizona House of Representatives from District 19 (North/East Mesa) from 2001 thru 2006. In 2005 and 2006 he served as Majority Whip. He served on a number of legislative committees including Environment; Natural Resources and Agriculture; and as Chairman of Transportation. Pierce previously served on the Arizona Housing Commission, the Maricopa County Planning and Zoning Commission and the Maricopa County Department of Transportation Advisory Board. Brenda Burns (Challenger): Brenda Burns has a long history of representing Arizonans. She first served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995. In 1993, Republican House members elected Brenda to the position of Majority Leader, making her the first woman to hold the position in Arizona. Brenda served eight years in the Arizona State Senate. In 1997, she became the first woman to hold the position of Arizona Senate President. As Senate President, Brenda was instrumental in the formation and passage of the State’s $6 billion dollar budget and reduced the Senate’s multimillion dollar budget by over eight percent. Throughout her political career Brenda Burns worked with leaders throughout the United States. As an active member of the Ame r i c an Le g i s l a t i ve Exchange Council, she served on its board for nine years, becoming ALEC’s national President in 1999. He served as a member of the Prescott City Council in the 1980s, and was appointed to the Arizona State Board of Education in 1992, serving as president in 1996 and 1998. Bullhead City Justice of the Thomas Brady (Incumbent): Thomas was first elected to the Bullhead City Justice of the Peace position in 2003.
