July 28, 2007 General Meeting Minutes

MOHAVE COUNTY REPUBLICAN CENTRAL COMMITTEE

GENERAL MEETING

DATE:  July 28, 2007 

MEETING CALLED TO ORDER at 10:02 a.m. by Chairman Buster Johnson at Desert Lighting, 1524 East Drinda, Bullhead City, AZ.    All Board members were present with the exception of  Louis Tranka, Director District 2 and Don Hodel, Director District 3.  There were 40 precinct committeemen present and no guests.Invocation was given by Ron Gould with the Flag salute by Nan Tewes.

CHAIRMAN Johnson introduced elected officials in attendance.The minutes from the April 25, 2007 were presented by Sue Donahue and approved as written.  With the absence of District 3 Director Don Hodel, Sue Donahue read the District 3 report.  Copy is on file.

Our guest speaker was lobbyist, Stan Barnes from Copper State Consulting Group.  He gave a brief history of the redistricting process.  In 1966 the court ordered one man one vote and our legislature has been Republican controlled ever since.Stan was elected to the House in 1988.  He spoke regarding the changing of the dynamic in the House and Senate since the last election and the need to retain the Republican seats.  He cautioned regarding the “Awakening of the Dems” putting up better candidates and plotting to take certain seats.

Treasurer Janice Gould reported bank balance with a copy of the report attached to these minutes.

Don D’Angina reported for District 1.  He reported on his progress on the picnic and made a request for all Directors to get sponsors for the picnic.  Donations of food and prizes are limited this year and they need all the participation they could get.  He also indicated that handbooks for PCs are available now and that there are 30 PCs in District 1.Az.

Representative Nancy McLain announced the new club, Golden Valley Republicans, has been granted its State Charter.  Evelyn Tranka donated land in Golden Valley for an education center.

Roy Dunton spoke on the need for sponsors for the picnic.  We will provide a  banner at the picnic with the names of all sponsors.  All names of sponsors need to be in by August 19th.

Paul McCormick announced that voter registration is up 1.5% -- Independents gained the most numbers.Questions arouse as to filing with FEC for non-profit status.  Are we under State Party’s 501(c)3?

Luka called for Kingman to support the Minutemen.

State Party will be working with Nevada Republican party for registration drive.There will two booths for voter registration at the picnic.

Noreen Thomas announced AFRW has booklet for female candidates.  Melissa Atherton was chosen as a Dodie Lunden attendee.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:30 a.m.
