MOHAVE COUNTY REPUBLICAN CENTRAL COMMITTEE

GENERAL MEETING 

 

April 21, 2008

Teleconference

 

Called to order by Chairman Johnson @ 4:35 p.m.

 

Roll call – Buster Johnson, Don Hodel, Sue Donahue (attended in person); Janice Gould, Shirley Ciresa and Don Van Brunt (attended by phone)

 

Treasurer’s report:  Janice Gould reported a cash balance of $6,102.08

 

District updates

 

Don Hodel reported that District 3 will be calling all delegates to the State Convention to make sure they have transportation, etc.

He indicated an approximate checking account balance of $16,000

The Steering Committee would like to begin an advertising campaign including TV ads and newspaper inserts.  The cost is estimated at $6,000 - $8,000 

Chairman Johnson reminded District 3 all LDD funds go to Central Committee.

Don also reported on a planned “Victory Party” @ Shugrue’s November 3.  The cost is $20 per person and there is room for 200 people.

 

At this point, the connection was lost on the conference call.  When the meeting reconvened, we were able to add JoAnn Oxsen and Lou Tranka to the call.

 

District 1 had no report other than working on getting the District 1 office open.

 

Update on state convention

 

Chairman Johnson indicated that we will need to use the first alternate delegate to replace Jackie Matson.

 

No speaker has been announced for the Victory Dinner at this time.

 

Voter registration

 

District 2 is planning a door to door campaign to register voters.

 

Letter of support for McCain

            All elected officials and clubs

 

The Executive Committee responded favorably to sending a letter to John McCain indicated the strong Republican support for his presidency in Mohave County.

  

Essay contest

            Grade and middle schools “What an Arizona President Means to Me”

 

Discussion regarding holding an essay contest of 250 words or less was positive.  There will be a $100 prize for elementary and middle schools in each District.  Since school will be out soon for the summer, it was agreed that we should hold the contest next school year with and October 15th deadline.  The prize money should be used to have an Election Day party for the class of the winning student.

New business

 

Delegates should be contacted on May 1st to make sure they have all the information they need.

 

Republican Picnic will be held on August 24, 2008.
